Preschool

Holy Shepherd offers preschool classes for 3 and 4 year old children. Classes include direct play and learning activities, laptop computer activities, supervised free play, craft projects, music and movement, small and large group activities, gross and fine motor opportunities, cooking classes and field trips. The children will also learn simple Bible stories and lessons, as well as prayers.

Philosophy and Mission

Philosophy: Our Preschool strives to encourage children’s learning in many ways. We believe that children learn through play and should be in a safe, clean, and healthy environment. Along with enhancing cognitive development, children experience physical and spiritual growth in conjunction with social and emotional needs to prepare them for an academic future in Kindergarten.

Mission: The mission of Holy Shepherd Preschool is to provide a curriculum that each day provides for the enhancement of education, motor, and social skills in a Christ centered environment. We desire to prepare each child for a well rounded social, spiritual, and academic future in kindergarten.

We are open to the public and any denomination.

Our Teachers

Our teachers demonstrate a sincere and loving Christian attitude, identify and relate to each child and his/her needs, and create fun, exciting activities and learning experiences.

Val Solan returns to the Holy Shepherd Preschool as teacher for the eleventh year. Val received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and teaching certificate from Rockford College. Several years later she earned her Montessori Preprimary certification. Val has 41 years of experience working with preschool children!

Testimonials

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Ms. Sandy and Ms. Val for quite some time now.  Between three of my children, we have spent six school years with these two lovely ladies.  Being a formal preschool teacher myself, I knew exactly what I was looking for when it came down to deciding on the right program for my own children.”

“We have had three children attend Holy Shepherd Preschool and all three loved it there!  …  They all learned so much at Holy Shepherd and were treated so wonderfully in a Christian environment that I can’t imagine sending them anywhere else.”

“We love the way our daughter can academically progress at her own speed and pursue her own interests. We feel she is more than prepared for kindergarten.”
